Medical Director

This position resides in the camp residence hall and oversee the infirmary for medical treatment of campers. Must be a physician’s assistant, registered nurse or certified EMT.

Period of Employment: mid-June-August 11, 2017

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Reside in the camp residence hall and oversee the infirmary for medical treatment of campers.
  • Implement the camp written medical plan (including daily health surveillance, handling of health emergencies and injuries, coordinating ambulance and first aid services).
  • Coordinate health care and medical information with the athletic training staff.
  • Screen camper medical history forms for completion and note any medical conditions in camper database.
  • Collect ALL medications and late medical history forms at camper check-in.
  • Verify the self-administration of ALL camper medications (before meals and bedtime). A designee(s) can witness and document the self-administration of medicines when needed.
  • Keep an inventory of medical supplies and assist administrative staff with ordering of new supplies.
  • Keep a log of all medical visits to infirmary, and maintain camper’s confidential medical history.
  • Contact the campers’ parents/guardians and inform them of any camper injury and/or illness.
  • Report accidents/injuries to TOMPKINS COUNTY HEALTH DEPARTMENT and to CORNELL RISK MANAGEMENT (see camp manual for list of injuries requiring reporting and contact information).
  • Other duties related to camper health care as assigned by the camp director.

Qualifications:

  • Must be a physician, physician’s assistant, registered nurse or certified EMT.
  • Must also be certified in standard first aid and CPR for the professional rescuer.
  • Previous camp experience is preferred.

Compensation: $450-550/week based on prior experience; includes meals and lodging.
